Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher

Overview

Byron Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs and help them achieve meaningful progress. This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to creating an inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

The SEN Teacher will work closely with students, families, teaching staff, and external professionals to deliver tailored educational support, promote student wellbeing, and encourage independence, confidence, and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that meet the individual learning needs of students with special educational needs

  • Develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching strategies based on student progress

  • Assess, monitor, and record student development, providing clear feedback to colleagues and families

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports learning and emotional wellbeing

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, support staff, therapists, and other professionals to provide coordinated support

  • Use a range of teaching methods, communication tools, and classroom resources to engage students effectively

  • Support students in developing social, emotional, behavioural, and academic skills

  • Identify barriers to learning and implement strategies to help students access the curriculum

  • Build positive relationships with parents and carers, maintaining regular and constructive communication

  • Contribute to reviews, meetings, and school-wide initiatives related to inclusion and student support

  • Promote safeguarding, student welfare, and equality in all aspects of the role

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified teacher status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

  • Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs

  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices and differentiated instruction

  • Ability to develop effective learning plans tailored to individual student needs

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Strong classroom management skills with a patient, supportive, and adaptable approach

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Nice to Have

  • Additional training or qualifications in special educational needs, inclusion, or related areas

  • Experience supporting students with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, or complex learning difficulties

  • Familiarity with behaviour support strategies, sensory approaches, or assistive technologies

  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
