Librarian

Overview

Byron Recruitment is seeking an experienced and student-focused Librarian for a U.S. Common Core school based in Doha, Qatar, with an ASAP start. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting students and staff across the school, managing library resources effectively, and contributing to a culture of academic curiosity, independence, and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the school library to ensure it is organized, accessible, and supportive of student learning

  • Curate, organize, and maintain a high-quality collection of print and digital resources aligned with the U.S. Common Core curriculum and the needs of students and staff

  • Promote reading for pleasure, information literacy, and independent research skills across different age groups

  • Support students in locating, evaluating, and using information effectively and responsibly

  • Collaborate with teachers to identify library resources that enhance classroom instruction and curriculum delivery

  • Assist in planning and delivering library orientation sessions, reading initiatives, and literacy-focused activities

  • Maintain accurate cataloguing, circulation, and inventory systems

  • Monitor library usage and resource needs, making recommendations for new materials and improvements

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed library environment that encourages respectful behavior and active learning

  • Support the integration of digital tools and online resources that strengthen student research and learning outcomes

  • Contribute positively to the wider school community through events, initiatives, and collaborative projects

  • Build strong professional relationships with students, colleagues, and families where relevant

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, or a related field

  • Relevant experience working as a librarian, school librarian, or in a library support role

  • Good understanding of library systems, cataloguing, and resource management

  • Experience supporting students with reading, research, and information literacy

  • Familiarity with U.S. curriculum standards, including Common Core, or the ability to adapt quickly to this framework

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and school leadership

  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment

  • Professional level of spoken and written English

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience in an international school setting

  • Experience working with digital library platforms and educational technology tools

  • Understanding of child development and age-appropriate reading support
