The Role


Music Teacher


Are you a highly qualified, dedicated, creative, adaptable and enthusiastic Music Teacher? We are looking for a founding Music Teacher for an August 2023 start.  The successful candidate will be someone who has the ability to lead and inspire children, as well as the willingness to support the ambition and values of the school. Applications from candidates with the ability to teach a second subject would be particularly welcomed.

 

St Paul’s Girls’ School in London has a long and proud history of excellence in music and SPGS International School in Chengdu will quickly develop a reputation for outstanding musical achievement. The successful candidate will lead on both academic and practical music, with the expectation that the school will quickly have a range of ensembles which will perform regularly in public. For an appropriate candidate an allowance is available to lead on developing the school’s role in the wider community, with music at the heart of this.


For an appropriately experienced candidate there may be the opportunity to take on responsibility as Head of Department or a pastoral leadership role.


Responsible to the Director of Studies and Headmaster.


This role is scheduled to begin in August 2023.


Requirements For This Role


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree with PGCE / QTS or,

  • Bachelor of Education Degree with QTS or similar international qualifications

  • Evidence of high-level academic music ability

Experience:

  • Minimum two years’ teaching experience at a UK or international school 

  • Experience in rehearsing and conducting instrumental ensembles including orchestras

  • Experience in choral direction

  • Outstanding performance skills as an instrumentalist or vocalist


Knowledge and Skills:

The successful candidate should have:

  • A wide interest in a range of musical styles with an ability to share their love of and passion for music 

  • Good Communication Skills  

  • Good Teamwork and Collaborative Skills

  • Resilience and a good sense of humour 

  • Fairness, Kindness and Warmth 

  • Interest in wider issues relating to teaching and learning

  • Ability to develop music technology in an effective way in a new department 

Responsibilities:


  • To teach Music at KS3, IGCSE level and A Level (with the possibility of taking on some KS2 teaching also)

  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in Music and across the wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional development

  • Lead on the school’s practical music programme liaising closely with other staff to develop choirs, orchestras and instrumental ensembles that meet the needs and interests of students across the school

  • Develop the school’s programme of taking music into the local community

  • Liaise with Music staff at SPGS London to build on their tradition of excellence and develop common programmes, including tours, where appropriate and possible

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children

  • Support the school’s aims and objectives for teaching and learning

  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons

  • Collaborate with colleagues at SPGS London to bring the best of their methods and expertise to SPGS International School Chengdu

  • Teach, according to their educational need, the students assigned to you

  • Keep-up-to-date with Department for Education and subject specific developments and contribute curriculum knowledge to the department

  • Keep up-to-date with wider educational research internationally

  • Comply with the requirements of the laws and education policies of the UK and the People’s Republic of China

 

Salary and Benefits:


A competitive package is available, with a salary commensurate with the nature and seniority of the post and the experience of the successful candidate. In addition to a highly competitive salary, benefits include:


  • 25,000 - 39,900 RMB / month - base salary, plus end of year incentive

  • 6,000 RMB / month - Housing and utilities allowance,

  • Relocation allowance,

  • Annual airfare allowance,

  • Visa assistance allowance,

  • Medical insurance.

  • Tuition support will be provided for school age children, following HR policies.

  • Holidays are in line with the school calendar.
