About the Role

The Head of Physical Education leads the PE department within an international high school setting, shaping a comprehensive and engaging programme that promotes student wellbeing, skill development, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on teaching and collaboration across the school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a cohesive PE curriculum aligned with international standards and school objectives

  • Lead, mentor, and support PE teachers, ensuring high-quality instruction and consistent departmental practices

  • Teach PE classes and model effective, student-centered teaching approaches

  • Organize and manage school sports programmes, inter-school competitions, and extracurricular activities

  • Monitor student progress and implement strategies to support diverse learning needs

  • Maintain and oversee the use of sports facilities, equipment, and safety procedures

  • Collaborate with school leadership on departmental planning, budgeting, and resource allocation

  • Foster positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external sports partners

  • Promote wellbeing, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the school community

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field

  • Teaching certification and experience teaching PE at the secondary level

  • Proven leadership experience within a PE department or equivalent team environment

  • Strong understanding of international curriculum frameworks

  • Experience coordinating school sports events and extracurricular activities

  • Ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and motivating learning environment

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in Education, Sports Administration, or a related field

  • Experience working in an international school setting

  • Coaching certifications in specific sports

  • Familiarity with safeguarding best practices
