Design Technology Teacher

Byron Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Design Technology Teacher to join a collaborative school community. This role offers the opportunity to guide students as they explore creative problem‑solving, practical design skills, and hands‑on making across a broad range of design technology areas.

What You Will Do

• Teach general Design Technology classes across assigned year levels

• Lead students through the full design cycle, from concept development to creation and evaluation

• Deliver practical lessons that build skills in safe tool use, materials handling, and workshop practices

• Develop engaging learning experiences that encourage innovation, curiosity, and critical thinking

• Create and adapt lesson plans that align with curriculum goals and student needs

• Maintain a safe, organised, and well‑managed workshop or makerspace environment

• Assess student work and provide constructive feedback to support growth

• Contribute to departmental planning and participate in schoolwide initiatives

• Support co‑curricular or project‑based learning activities related to design and technology

Required Qualifications

• Degree in a teachable subject

• Valid teaching licence

• Experience teaching or training others in practical, hands‑on learning environments

• Strong understanding of the design process and a range of materials and tools

• Ability to create an inclusive classroom where all students feel supported and capable

Nice to Have

• Experience with CAD, digital fabrication tools, or emerging technologies

• Background in product design, engineering, or a related field

• Experience supporting extracurricular design or STEM clubs
